Shantanu Bhagyaraj, Ishita
Review:
Sakkarakatti is the debut show for director Kalaprabhu, hero Shanthnoo Bhagyaraj as well as one of the heroines Ishitha Sharma. The film, a triangular love story progresses on a determined track and clear pace from the start and when it reaches the finish line, it leaves a fine impression on the audiences.
Yuvaraj (Shanthnoo) is a young guy in college. His cousin Reema (Vedika) stays with Yuvaraj's family. Being friends since childhood, everyday Yuvaraj and Reema commute to college together. Though society expects and assumes that Reema will be Yuvaraj's life partner someday, Yuvaraj is very clear about his relationship with Reema. He even manages to brush aside all his friends' curious questions as well as comments. For him, Reema is his dear cousin. However, sensitive Reema does not feel so. Yuva is her trustworthy friend and guide; the security and warmth in the friendship makes her look upon him as her fiancé. In fact, for her, Yuvaraj is the throbbing centre of her whole world. However she keeps her feelings to herself and continues to be friendly with Yuva.
Meanwhile, Yuva begins to like his new college-mate Deepali (Ishitha Sharma). Though Deepali too falls in love with the charming Yuva, she doubts his friendship with Reema. Also, carried away by friends' remarks, she believes that something of serious magnitude brews between Yuva and Reema. This doubt causes her to distance herself from Yuvaraj and prevents her from expressing her feelings for him. So, what happens next? Will Yuvaraj get through the maze of misunderstanding and win Deepali's heart? Will Deepali understand the true nature of the relationship between Yuva and Reema as well as Yuva's side in it? Will Reema be prudent to give up her one-side love? Watch Sakkarakatti to know!
Debutante director Kalaprabhu has completely relied on the simple yet intriguing storyline for the success of Sakkarakatti; his confidence has indeed won! Shanthnoo, son of writer/director K.Bhagyaraj has remained a very solid performer throughout the film. Representing a sophisticated young man in a metropolis, Shanthnoo's demeanour and attitude are cool. His facial expressions and body language are so established that he does not look like a debut hero. We must admit that the young performer is a proud recipient of the creative genes from both his star parents and sister. Vedika and newcomer Ishitha Sharma too have done competently well.
Above all, A.R.Rahman's music is Sakkarakatti's highlight. The endearing picturisation of these songs add to the amusement. In fact, next to Shankar, Kalaprabhu seems to be the creator who looks forward to adding an appealing touch to the song sequences. The sets, the backdrop as well as the artists' costumes and colour coordination between them indeed present a visual treat. 'Taxi Taxi', the most popular and youthful number has been shot twice; 'Marudani' 'I miss you da' are the other lovely tunes in the film.
Cinematographers Andrew and Raaza Madhi require a special credit for the success and reach of the songs. Also, the whole film has been presented in an appropriate and impressive angle. It emphasises the theme as well as the significance of the characters in it.
Sakkarakatti is a sweet and cheerful romantic entertainer.

Sakkarakatti that will launch Santanu as hero is being produced by Kalaipuli S Thanu for V Creations. The film is to be directed by another film heir, Kalaprabhu, the son of Thanu. The story is very simple. A rich girl falls in love with a boy belonging to middle class family. What happens after that is the story of Sakkarakatti.
Shibi and Ishita are the two young beauties from Mumbai who will star with Santanu. Like any typical formula film, the hero has 4 chums to indulge him and duets has been shot abroad. The globetrotting composer A R Rehman is composing music for Sakkarakatti.
When Thanu produced 'Kaaka Kaaka,' 'Thotti Jaya' and 'Sachein, Kalaprabhu learnt the rudiments of direction from directors Gautam Menon, Durai and John respectively. S Thanu is an ardent supporter of MDMK. Bhagyaraj is a DMK supporter and at every possible opportunity on the dais, he tears apart Vaiko, the leader of MDMK. The fathers may be at political loggerheads, but the heirs will work together on the professional front.
Music Review:
The romantic movie Sakkarakatti is director Kalaprabhu as well as hero Shanthnoo's debut. Vedhika is the heroine. A.R. Rahman's songs are among the most attractive aspects of Sakkarakatti.
There is something faintly familiar with the tune of 'Chinamma'. Chinmayi and Benny Dayal have given their best to this romantic number.
Reena Bharadwaj will automatically earn kudos for her apt singing in 'Naan Epodhu'. Her voice adds more gloss to the song.
'Elay' is a rustic lyric dressed up in a contemporary tune. Krish and Naresh Iyer croon this novel number.
'I miss You Da' by Chinmaye and Indai Haza will make its way to listeners' hearts.
'Marudani' is a fabulous treat by A.R. Rahman, Madhushree and Henry. The tune as well as the combination of the voices provides a melodious proof to Rahman's melody style.
'Taxi Taxi', a chorus by Blaaze, Benny Dayal and Javed Ali, has already become popular among the youth. Typically tuned and styled like a rap, the song casts a native charm and appeal.
Rahman's compositions sparkle with a brilliance and emotion that is both exciting and memorable.
