Cinematographer T Kannan says that he is not for digital cinematography

Cinematographer T Kannan is simultaneously handling the camera for Kadhalukku Maranam Illai, Marupadiyum Oru Kadhal, Aayiram Vilakku and Thambi Kottai. He is also planning to direct a film shortly.

How is it possible to handle camera for four films at a time?

This happened incidentally. I had the principle that only after completing one film I will go to the next. But I got continuous offers. The directors of those films had faith in my cinematography. So I have happily worked in these films. The films will speak about my talents after its release. While working in these films I had also handled camera for the Malayalam film Mohanlal starrer Alexander the Great and Dhilip starrer Crazy Gopalan.

Is it possible to correct the defects in the cinematography by using D I?

It cannot be corrected fully. D I can be used to enhance the beauty of a scene that has been shot earlier. It is a wrong notion that D I can be used to correct a scene that has been wrongly shot in the shooting. The original scene itself should be of quality. Then only D I will help. The audience will be able to find out the scene which has been changed into night using D I. In Aayiram Vilakku I have used the lighting according to the story. I am satisfied for handling the camera for this film. In Thambi Kottai there will be pucca commercial camera work.

Digital cinematography?

I am not for this. Whatever cinema it may be, we would shoot it with film only. The life in the film is not there in digital. This differs from cinematographer to cinematographer. You cannot get the expected result if we shoot in digital format. If anybody asks me to shoot the whole film in digital, I would give a big list of advantages by using film. If they still insist digital format, I would refuse to do the film.

Are you going to direct a film?

I got the idea and have also readied a story. Though I am a cinematographer, this will be a director’s film. This will be a commercial film. I always want to be a director’s cinematographer.
